Summer Reading Book Ads

During the summer, I challenge you to read at least ten new books! Each time you finish a book, post a brief book ad to serve as a recommendation for your peers. When it is time for you to choose a new book, read through the ads to get an idea for a new title! If you post at least ten book ads by the first day of school, you will be invited to a summer reading party in the fall. Good luck!

  1. A Wrinkle In Time
    by Madeleine L'engle

This book was about a girl called Meg and two boys. ( Charles Wallace and Calvin) When they are sent on an adventure to rescue Meg and Charles Wallace's Dad what was supposed to be a simple mission turned in to having to save Charles Wallace from IT as well. IT is pronounced I.T is really a big brain which controls every person on the planet Cammotouz. Charles Wallace is now being controlled by IT.
Will they be able to handle saving both?
    Who knows?
    Read the book!

  2. A Wind In The Door
    by Madeleine L'engle

This book is the second book in the series a Wrinkle In Time and I found I could not put it down.
When Meg's little brother Charles Wallace is dieing because his mitochondria are dieing because the farandolae in his mitochondria are being attacked by the evil monsters called Echthroi.

And they think that Einsteins law E=MC squared which means that energy can be converted into matter and that matter can be converted into energy is being disproved because in the book they are saying that they are turning into nothingness meaning that it is all out of balance. So it is affecting Charles Wallace.

So they take a trip into Charles Wallace. Find Out what happens next by reading the book.

  10. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is a thrilling fantasy that you absolutely must read! This book is about Harry and his friends during the Hogwarts school year as they slowly learn how to defeat Lord Voldemort with Dumbledore’s help. Voldemort split his soul into 7 pieces to put them into Horcruxes. Harry and his friends must destroy these Horcruxes and then obliterate Voldemort. Out of a five star rating, I would give this book 4 ½ stars. Overall, this is a fast paced book, but there also were parts where it was a bit slow and dull. This book allows the reader to suspend reality for a while! This is the kind of book that may make you feel like missing meals in order to find out what happens next! For those who dig fantasy stories, this is the book for you!

  13. The batboy is about a boy who becomes a batboy for the Detroit Tigers. He then has to help his favorite player recover from steroids. Its a smaller book and its pretty easy. It wasn’t the best book I read and it was a little slow. It was a little bit creepy when they talked about steroids and I wouldn’t read it if you get creeped up by that stuff.

I read Dork Diaries by Rachel Renee Russel. It is a realistic fiction. It is the first book out of two books and it is called Tales From a Not So Fabulous Life. It is about a girl named Nikki Maxwell and she is going into middle school. But there is one problem. There is a mean girl called Mackenzie Hollister who is always pushing people around and being perfectly pretty. meanwhile Nikki has made some knew friends named Cloe and Zoe.

The book was more of a quick read for me but I would still give it four out of five stars because it was a very interesting book but I thought they could take out some boring parts that they did not need. I liked it a lot because it explained everything in a way that I could understand. I think you would like it for the same reason.

  19. Savvy by Ingrid Law

Imagine having a magical power, a savvy that might enable you to move mountains, fix electric problems in a blink of an eye, or summon up wind and storms. In Savvy, each member of the Beaumont family finds their savvy when they turn 13. Just before Mibs’ 13th birthday, Poppa Beaumont is caught in a car accident. The next day, Mibs thinks she knows what her savvy is. So during her unwanted birthday party at the church, (the Beaumonts always celebrated family parties at home due to savvies) she stows away in a bus filled with pink bibles heading to Salina (where her father’s hospital is) with her friends Bobbi and Will Jr. and her brothers Fish and Samson. Find out what happens to them! Even though this 5 star book takes place in only 2 days, the writer is able to pack so much detail into this story! The ending to the story is brilliant and this fiction story will be loved by kids for a long time to come

  20. Into the Land of the Unicorns by Bruce Coville

Who says unicorns aren’t real? Cara jumps into Luster, the world of the unicorns, when a mysterious man chases her and her grandma into a church, one of the gates into Luster. There she meets the Dimblethum, a shaggy bear/man-like creature, Lightfoot, a mischievous unicorn, and a little squirrel-like creature called the Squigm. She must then journey to the Unicorn Queen to return the magical amulet that brought Cara to Luster. I personally feel that this fantasy should receive 4 stars because in some parts the story was really slow and I didn’t like that, but I did like this book for its originality and for its adventurous spirit.

  21. How to Train Your Dragon by Hiccup H. H. the 3rd

Do you like hilarious adventures? If so, this is the book for you! Hiccup is a 10 and ½-year-old Viking boy from the tribe of the Hairy Hooligans. He’s different from all the other boys, being much thinner, and having red hair and freckles. Hiccup catches a very tiny dragon and calls it Toothless, as he has no teeth. A couple of months later, 2 huge, giant, humongous, enormous, gobsmackingly vast Seadragonus Giganticus Maximuses rise from the sea after a storm. Together the 20 boys from the Hooligan and Meathead tribe who failed a test enabling them to join their tribes annihilate the Sea Dragons! I would give this fantasy book a well-earned 5 star rating. I loved this book for its fascinating descriptions. This book is full of fun, humor and action. I would recommend to anyone. This is an overall enjoyable story.

This book is about a baseball player named Derek Jeter. It was a good book and I liked it because it was well written and I like baseball. The only bad thing about it is that Derek Jeter is a Yankee. I would give this book 4/5 stars because it was interesting and sometimes funny. I really liked this book and if you like baseball you should read it. Even if you don’t like the Yankees.

  24. Hoot by Carl Hiaasen

Roy is the new kid that just moved to Florida. He’s used to bullies, but if it hadn’t been for Dana Matherson smooshing his face against the school bus window, Roy might not have seen the running boy. That boy was the first interesting thing Roy saw in Florida. The boy had no shoes, no backpack, no books and he was running away from the bus stop. Roy decides to find out who this boy really is. His adventure introduces him to alligators, an evil pancake man, some burrowing owls, and some poisonous snakes. I would give this realistic fiction book 5 stars for its knowledge on how we negatively change ecosystems by building more places for people to work and live.

This weekend their family is on a camping trip in Estes Park. Meanwhile something occurs and their parents have to leave them alone and they get in a huge fight and Gordon gets mad at Doug and Gordon ends up leaving the camp sight. The bad part that Doug remembers is that there has been a cougar sighted near their camp spot and Gordon is all alone with barely any food. Find out what happens to Gordon on his dangerous adventure through the mountains.
